The JDOUD project (grandparents in Arabic) consists in the organization of a thematic residency of illustration between artists based in Brussels and Tunis to create artistic exchanges and a collective exhibition around a common theme, namely: « Our grandparents ».

JDOUD is based on online exchanges (virtual workshop) during which 5 Tunisian and 5 Belgian illustrators (previously selected) work in pairs. On the basis of objects of a grandmother or a grandfather collected for the occasion, each pair draws a portrait of the grandfather/grandmother of their partner on the basis of this memory box. These 10 illustrated portraits will then be the subject of a travelling exhibition in order to reach a large public in different places. Cultural mediation workshops in the presence of the artists will allow the same creative process to be used with the public and thus encourage exchanges around the theme.

JDOUD aims to create a common artistic space between two different places of residence: different in their cultural, social and economic context.

The exhibition will be first taking place at the Cultural Center Bruegel based in the old neighborhood of Les Marolles, in Brussels as of March 19th until April 3rd, 2022.

JDOUD is entirely managed and curated by Kat dems. It is funded by Arts&Publics and the i-Portunus artistic mobility scheme.

JDOUD is available on Instagram & Facebook.
